It’s not OK!!!

The way things are now in this sport IS NOT OK.

Ice hockey has experienced a significant increase in unacceptable behavior by players, coaches, parents, fans, and officials. This adversarial environment in the rink negatively impacts all of us.

As officials, coaches, players, parents, and fans, it’s time for us to work together to create an environment where players can learn and develop in a positive and supportive atmosphere, and where officials can focus on the game without fear of abuse or harassment.

Together, we can nurture a culture of respect and sportsmanship that will benefit everyone involved in the game.

We are all on the same team

players

Hockey players participate in a very fast, physical, and sometimes dangerous sport. Officials are responsible for managing the game and ensuring the safety of all participants.

Disrespecting officials for doing their job on the ice will only send you to the penalty box (or locker room) and hurt your team.

coaches

Hockey coaches set the example for what is considered appropriate behavior both on and off the ice surface.

When coaches disrespect and abuse officials, they are communicating the message to their players that this type of behavior is acceptable. It is not.

parents

Hockey parents are emotionally and financially invested in the game when their sons and daughters are involved … understandably so.

However, when parents are abusive or behave inappropriately, it reflects poorly upon their team and often causes their child a great deal of embarrassment.
